Description

AVAILABILITY ONLY 28TH AUGUST - 30TH SEPT 2021 Standing proudly in its own large grounds along the Colla Road, just a 5 minute walk from Schull town centre and with stunning views over Schull Harbour can be found Grove House, a charming Georgian Villa stemming from the Victorian era. Built in the 1880’s, Grove House comes with a long and rather interesting history and has been many things in its time, ranging from a rectory, private residence, nursing home, hotel and most recently a Guest House with an onsite restaurant, however this is the first time it will come to market as a luxury private holiday let rental for large families or groups of friends who wish to get together when they get away from it all. Coming in at just over 4000 sq feet, Grove House can sleep 12 comfortably within its 5 large spacious bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, (4 of which are ensuite), two living rooms, separate restaurant sized dining room, sun room and home office, yet it still somehow manages to retain a personal and cosy family home away from home feeling. A house that welcomes You home after a day exploring the local sights! Unsurprisingly given its status and location, Grove House has attracted some very famous names from the Arts world in Irish history. George Bernard Shaw stayed here back in 1902, Jack (brother of William) Butler Yeats also stayed here, when he came painting to Schull in 1915 and Edith Somerville and her cousin Violet Martin, who gave us the rather hilarious Irish RM, were also guest in bye-gone days. Today four of the bedrooms bear their names, so you can stay in the Shaw, Yeats, Somerville or Ross room, depending on your preference for the Theatre, Art Galleries or comedic fiction. Views from the bedrooms at the front of the house, look over the harbour itself and you can wake up to the sounds local Church Bells, while watching sailing boats heading in and out of Schull’s timeless harbour from your bed, the perfect antidote to modern life. It’s two well-proportioned living rooms, will enable multi-generational families to split their space so that each living room can fit the purpose needed. Just want to catch up over a glass of wine after a day of activities? Or would you rather a movie night in front of the TV with younger family members? Either way our guests can have the privacy or conviviality which they seek. Younger generations are also catered for, there is separate games building for kids and teens in the back court yard with a table tennis table/ pool table , so that they can also have their own space and chill out, allowing adults to catch up undisturbed. Two sizeable kitchens means cooking will never be a chore, both are well stocked. One used to be the kitchen for Grove House when it operated a restaurant, so our very culinary focused guests will have the space and inspiration they need to create their signature dishes, which can then be served in the grand dining room which also houses a baby grand piano for the music lovers! Our sun room with its views over the sea, is the perfect place to while away an afternoon lost in a book with a nice glass of wine! While in the summer time, you can breakfast and dine al fresco, directly overlooking Schull harbour. Grove House is the prefect place to escape to, to wind down, reset the body clock, spend time with family and take in those awe inspiring views and we look forward to welcoming our guests to this beautiful part of Ireland. Schull village, nestled away in West Cork just 85kms from Cork City is the main town on the Mizen peninsular and sits in the shadow of Mount Gabriel and along the famous Wild Atlantic Way. Locals will remark that the temperature here is higher than most of the rest of Ireland and despite what you may think, they have the sub-tropical plants to prove it! Schull’s spectacular views, charming streets, lively atmosphere and selection of outdoor activities, make it one of best locations to escape to for catch ups with family and friends. With its beautiful harbour, it comes as no surprise that sailing is one of the big activities taking place here, and the local Schull sailing company caters for both the novice and professional when it comes to hitting the water, from Dinghy to Keelboats, day sails to weekly courses, you are free to choose what suits you best! Those who want to improve their backhand, can book tennis lessons or even drop in to Sunday morning sessions if feeling energetic. Around Schull is where this region of Cork comes in to its own, as with all parts of Ireland, history is ever present in our landscape, Schull and it’s surrounds are no exception. Here the countryside is a veritable treasure trove of ancient sites, old castles and forts just waiting to be discovered and explored, numerous beaches are also within easy reach for lazy days lying in the sun. Other activities include, Whale watching, Island Hopping to Cape Clear and Sherkin Island, surfing, diving, while nearby the Mizen Head Lighthouse visitor centre with its famous bridge is a must see, or perhaps you fancy some cliff top walks along the coast, Colla Ring or Mount Gabriel, so it is impossible to ever lack something to do no matter how active or calm you wish to be. Schull village itself is quite famous for its craft, book and local food shops, as well as a myriad of cafes and traditional pubs, and with its slower pace of life, it is the perfect retreat away from the bustling norms, to recharge, re-energise and simply re-connect.
