DescriptionTo the north of Riverston House and located just across the Dublin Road (R445 Regional Road) there are approx. 2.43 Hectares (6 acres) of lands that are currently zoned amenity lands in the Nenagh Town & Environs Development Plan 2013-2019 zoning map (Feb 2013).
Riverston House and Lands is located just on the outskirts of Nenagh town in County Tipperary. “The Fair of Ormond” or simply “The Fair”, Nenagh is the county town and second largest town in County Tipperary. The town used to be a market town, and the site of the East Munster Ormond Fair.
Nenagh lies to the west of the Nenagh River, which empties into Lough Derg at Dromineer, which is approx. 9 km to the north-west. The Silvermine Mountain range lies to the south of the town that have been intermittently mined for silver and base metals for over seven hundred years.
The town is part of the historical Barony of Ormond Lower which was the traditional territory of the O'Kennedy's prior to the Norman invasion. This land was included in the grant made by King John of England to Theobald, eldest son of Hervey Walter of Lancashire, England. Theobald was subsequently appointed Chief Butler of Ireland. Nenagh Castle was built c. 1216 and was the main castle of the Butler family before they moved to Gowran, County Kilkenny in the 14th century. There are superb facilities in the town for family living and it has a population of around 8,968 (2016 Census). The town has excellent amenities including GAA clubs, Nenagh Olympic athletic club, Nenagh Golf Club, Arts centre, Heritage centre and Nenagh Castle is always a great attraction for tourists and locals to visit.
