As the county town of Offaly many government services are located here such as the headquarters of Offaly County Council, the Midlands Regional Hospital and HSE services along with government departments such as the Department of Agriculture and Department of Education & Skills. It is also an important industrial, retail and services centre for the county. The town is also serviced by a railway station which is a stop on the main intercity routes between Dublin-Galway and Dublin-Westport/Ballina. Zoning: The subject lands are zoned with an objective for Industrial use in the Tullamore Town & Environs Development Plan 2010-2016 (extended to 2020).
