From Louisburgh, Proceed out the Westport road, taking a right for Old Head, continue towards the beach and on to the Pier Road, taking the next left. The subject property is the first house on the right hand side.


Old Head is a Blue Flag Beach located approx. 3.5km east of Louisburgh village. The beach has a small harbour, an attractive and popular sandy beach and a woodland walk while the nearby village has a number of shops, pubs and dining outlets. Old Head is a safe area for swimming, with lifeguards on duty during the summer months. The Blueway is a network of water trails at which you can to experience a variety of water-based activities, including kayaking and snorkelling, in a safe controlled environment. Located on the Atlantic coast, this area is famous for its wide range of unspoilt beaches; famed for their clean bathing waters and untainted sandy coves. The beaches of Cross and Carrowniskey are renowned destinations for water-sports; these include surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and angling. Carrowniskey is a lifeguarded beach, where surfing instruction is available. Less than 5 km south are the idyllic beaches of Thallabawn (White Strand) and Silver Strand, which are rated best in Europe and are beautiful for swimming and sunbathing. Beaches in the Louisburg area include Carrowmore, Old Head and Bertra, all lifeguarded beaches; these are popular for swimming and water-sports. If your passion is walking, climbing or just generally “rambling”, then this is the destination for you. Croagh Patrick, Mweelrea and the Sheeffry Hills are in close proximity. There are numerous interesting walks and cycle routes to discover in the Louisburg and surrounding area, with magnificent scenery all around. Near-by, Roonagh Pier is the departure point for ferries to the beautiful Clare Island and Inishturk. These are very popular destinations for both day-trips and longer sojourns. The short drive south to Leenane and Connemara passes through the magnificently scenic Doolough valley, flanked by the majestic Mweelrea and the Sheefry Hills. Doolough is also the location for Delphi Adventure Centre. Leenane is located near the mouth of the famous Killary Fjord, a 14.5 km-long glacial inlet. South of Leenane is the unique landscape of Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey. Other scenic drives are north to Achill (via Westport and Newport); north-east to Ballycastle and the Ceide Fields (via Castlebar and Pontoon); east to Tourmakeady and Lough Nafooey (via Westport/Tourmakeady and Leenane) The local church, primary school, playground, Killeen Community Centre and the Ocean Lodge at Killadoon are all within a 2 km radius.
