There is also horse riding, surfing, golf and bicycle hire all nearby. If you are in the mood for some local tradition and award winning food, Rose cottage is located near two lively country towns Ardara (5km) and Glenties (1km)
The area surrounding Rose Cottage is filled with beaches including Maghera beach which is filled with caves and has horse riding available and Narin beach which boasts the Narin and Portnoo golf course said to be the finest natural and scenic 18-hole course in Ireland. The Sandfield pitch and put is also nearby.
This area has also been described as a fisherman's paradise. The Owenea River runs through Glenties town and is famous for its salmon and trout fishing. It is also ideal walking terrain. There are a number of excellent signed walks in this part of West Donegal including he Gap Trail which is within walking distance of the cottage. The Bluestack Way is a more challenging route, coming over the Bluestack Mountains and SlÃ na Finne a loop route around Fintown Lake and Ballinamore, passing into the Bluestack Mountains and The Croaghs.
Rose cottage is placed between two towns, the heritage town of Ardara which is a major centre for the manufacturing of hand-woven tweed with several shops along the main street selling tweeds and hand-knitted sweaters. While your there donâ€™t forget to stop at one of the many traditional pubs in the town most of which have live music on different nights, this includes Nancyâ€™s Bar which has worn numerous awards for its seafood menu. Glenties Town boasts a museum filled with local artefacts and history
