Situated in the village of Penmaenpool, close to Dolgellau, Pen Glan makes a great base for exploring the area. With off road parking, and a delightful dining/conservatory overlooking the courtyard garden, this semi-detached cottage is a wonderful place to stay. The open plan living area has a cosy wood burner – ideal for curling up on the sofa with a glass of wine. Upstairs are two bedrooms plus an unusual quirky bathroom. Pen Glan is just a few minutes walk from the George III Hotel which serves tasty Welsh food. It’s also close to the famous wooden Penmaenpool Toll Bridge, built in 1879 which has spanned the Mawddach tidal estuary ever since. You can pay your 70p toll to the friendly toll keeper to drive over the bridge and take a short cut to Barmouth where there’s a fantastic spacious sandy beach (don’t forget your bucket and spade). Further south is Fairbourne which has a miniature railway running to a spit opposite Barmouth, Llwyngwril, which has an annual yarnbombing event, and Tywyn, from where you can catch a narrow gauge steam train on the historic Talyllyn Railway up into the hills to Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol. Inland is the pretty town of Dolgellau which has a range of interesting individual shops and some delightful cafes and restaurants. Pop in for a Welsh latte while you browse. Beach 7 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
