DescriptionNo 4 Cooey na Gaal is a modern 3 bedroom holiday home with a wonderful location in the beach and golf resort of Portsalon in North Donegal. The holiday home is situated in a small cul de sac development just above the quaint harbour in Portsalon. To the front of the house there are beautiful views over Ballymastoker Bay and Lough Swilly towards Knockalla Mountain and the hills of the Inishowen Peninsula.
Blue Flag Beach on Your Doorstep
From the front door of the holiday home it is just a short walk down to Portsalons harbour with its sandy cove. A few hundred metres brings you to Portsalon Golf Club - a superb 18 hole links course. Just below the golf club is the start of the expansive Blue Flag Porsalon beach which stretches all the way to the foot of Knockalla Mountain. The beach is regularly rated as one of the best beaches in Ireland.
The holiday home itself has an open plan ground floor. The living area is comfortably furnished. It has an open fireplace and enjoys sea views. The bright dining area has an elegant table and has access to a decking area and back lawn via patio doors. There is a well equipped kitchen area and a separate utility. There are three upstairs bedrooms (one ensuite) and a bathroom with bath and separate shower. There is ample parking to the front of the holiday home.
Portsalon is located on the ruggedly beautiful Fanad Peninsula in north Donegal. It is a popular family seaside resort and is well served with amenities. There is a restaurant and bar at the harbour, a restaurant and bar in the golf club and also a shop with cafe. There is a watersports centre at the harbour where kayaks and pedal boats can be hired .The green fees at Portsalon Golf Club are very reasonably for such a highly rated course. Angling charters are also available from the harbour.
In addition to the golf course the main attraction in Portsalon is, of course, its wonderful Blue Flag beach. The beach is approximately 3km long and is a popular beach for swimmers, walkers, kayakers, kite fliers and windsurfers. Surfing takes place towards the Knockalla end. With its golden sand and large sand dunes the beach is an idyllic playground for kids of all ages.
The Fanad Peninsula
Portsalon is centrally located on the Fanad Peninsula. This rugged but beautiful peninsula stretches north from the village of Milford via Kerrykeel to Fanad Head and back down to the heritage village of Ramelton via Rathmullan. It contains numerous bays, glorious beaches, rugged mountains, rolling hills and numerous small lakes. For the enthusiastic walker it is ideal walking terrain.
The neighbouring Rosguill peninsula is easily accessible from the holiday home via the Mulroy Bridge. This smaller peninsula is equally blessed with golden beaches, headlands and rugged hills. There are two lively coastal resorts on the peninsula - Carrigart and Downings - as well as the renowned Rosapenna Golf Resort
Wild Atlantic Way
Portsalon is located along the Wild Atlantic Way - Irelands long distance driving route. This scenic drive skirts much of the coastline of the Fanad Peninsula . The iconic Fanad Head Lighthouse is a Signature Point on this route and is located just 12km north of the holiday home.
There are a number of worthwhile day trips that can be enjoyed from the holiday home. These include the magnificent Glenveagh National Park and the historic Walled City of Derry. Letterkenny - Donegals main shopping town - is 30 miniutes drive away and features a multi-screen cinema, theatre, county library and museum, Arena 7 Adventure Complex, karting cente and the modern Aura leisure centre.
