The Village of Carna: The small village of Carna lies on the shores of Galway Bay, overlooking Galway Harbour, in the scenic region of Connemara. Lying off the coast of Carna is St. MacDara's Church and Island (which is visible from the property), a notable holy place in west Ireland, and a site of pilgrimage and mass in July. The sailing crafts, the 'Galway Hookers' were made in Carna, as well as a small boat called the Currach, and the area is well known for the skilled boat makers who crafted them. There are still some working examples of the Galway Hooker in the area. There is great fishing in the area with Lough Mask and Lough Corrib close by, while Connemara National Park, Inis Boffin, the Aran Islands and and Kylemore Abbey are all within easy
reach, providing great days out for all the family.
