Joe's Cottage is a classic Irish long cottage located in Cloghan, in the heart of County Donegal. Carefully restored in 2015, the cottage’s interior is decorated in a ‘modern cottage’ style, whilst retaining a traditional feel. The comfortable furnishings, log burners, original artworks and attention to detail make this such a special place to stay.
Set within its own twenty acres of private land, the cottage has beautiful countryside views against the backdrop of the Bluestack Mountains. Such a truly peaceful and tranquil setting makes this cottage the ideal hideaway. However, for the more adventurous there is much to discover in the local area. Cloghan is it the perfect base from which to explore Donegal and the North-West of Ireland.
Irish Speaking Area
Cloghan is a predominantly Irish speaking area with a rich heritage. The area is noted for its stunning mountain scenery and miles of hiking trails in the immediate locality and the Bluestack Mountains. The nearby River Finn boasts one of the most prolific wild salmon and sea trout fishing areas in Ireland and so is a spot much favored by anglers.
Glenties and Brian Friel
From Cloghan, visitors can take the spectacular highland drive to Lough Finn and then onto the lovely town of Glenties, known as the gateway to the Irish highlands. The Fintown Railway runs parallel on this route and is the only operational railway in Co. Donegal. The famous Irish playwright Brian Friel once described the shores of Lough Finn as unique, and as grand as any in Switzerland or Minnesota!
Wild Atlantic Way Beaches
Narin and Portnoo are a short drive from Glenties where visitors will find wonderful, unspoilt, blueflag beaches. Once at this beautiful coast, visitors can explore some of the most stunning stretches of the Wild Atlantic Way, the breathtaking coastal touring route that runs for 2500KM from Donegal to Cork.
