Lovers of nature will be pleased to know that part of the Carrickfin peninsula has been designated a Special Area of Conservation and also a Natural Heritage area. Wildlife is in abundance and the area is noted for the presence of rare plant species.
Other attractions in this part of Donegal include the breathtaking Glenveigh National Park and the family orientated Dunlewey Centre. This centre has lots of different attractions -children's play area, farm yard, boat trips, craft shop, weaving house, audio visuals, etc. The islands of Tory, Aranmore and Gola are all within easy reach of the cottage. Also within easy reach of the cottage are good restaurants and friendly pubs including the famous Leo's Tavern - the home of both Clannad and Enya.
