Description

The minute I saw The Thatch, my face lit up, it was something like out of a fairytale – stunning, old world, intriguing, just wonderful and of course the impressive feature is the Thatched Roof which is in excellent condition and Glantane, well it is a like a village you would see in West Cork – so lovely and yet only a 30 minute drive from Cork City. So, what is the history of The Thatch – The house was a meeting place for units of the Lombardstown Volunteers and was used as a dispatch depot for sending and receiving mail with frequent visits from Liam Lynch. When the house was been refurbished, they found Volunteer Telegrams hidden in the roof. The Thatch was built in 1910 and still has some of its original features in place. There is another Thatch Cottage nearby where they have extended by putting on a very tasteful modern extension which really compliments it and brings it into the 21st century. The three-bedroom 2 storey detached cottage is very deceptive from the outside and what is lovely about the surroundings is that you have mature trees, privacy and only a minute’s walk to the village. The one feature I particularly love is the park across the road which hosts an old telephone box which is used as an honesty book club, very impressive. The accommodation is spacious, well portioned, measuring 119 sq.m. Spread over 2 levels, there is a ground floor and upper floor beneath the pitched roof. The dining area is designed mostly from wood, with a large wooden staircase going across. There is a cast iron bellow and patio doors in the room which connects to the kitchen. In the room off to the side there are fixtures for a fireplace, and it appears to be a small living room. The first bedroom has wooden floors and an ensuite bathroom with a shower and then 2 bedrooms both ensuite on the first floor.
