Location
Spiddal is a Gaeltacht village on the shore of Galway Bay in Co Galway. It is 19km west of Galway City on the R336 road. Spiddal is a tourist centre in the Connemara region with a scenic beach, harbour and shore fishing. Local shops and services include a newsagent's shop, grocery shop, post office, and petrol station in the centre of the village. There is also a pharmacy, a bank, a butcher shop, a hairdresser, a hardware store and Gannon's traditional Irish Music shop. There is also a pizza restaurant and a Chinese restaurant. There is also a wide selection of pubs and restaurants, many of which cater for Irish music. To the east of the village, there is a craft centre, gallery and Standúns Clothes and fashion shop further east again. There is one hotel in the village, and bed and breakfast accommodation in and nearby. The village is served by Bus Éireann route 424 from Galway City. There is Irish language courses in the summer while there is also a GAA and hurling club, as well as judo and sailing clubs in the village.
