Description

The documented history of Drimnagh goes right back to the time of Strongbow, but the story of modern Drimnagh dates from the 1930’s when families began to move from substandard city-centre slums to newly built homes with gardens in Drimnagh and its surrounding areas. The new roads that were constructed at that time were named for Ireland’s major mountain ranges such as Galtymore, Sperrin, Benbulbin and, of course Mourne. It seems hard to imagine, given its proximity to the city, that a move to Drimnagh was considered to be almost a move ‘to the country’ by those first residents, but it is probably understandable given that, until 1930 or so, much of the area was farmland. Number 279 is in need of significant updating and decorating but its end-of-terrace location, and south facing garden backing onto Brickfield Park, mean it has some excellent features to start from. EXPLORE INSIDE: The entrance hall leads to a kitchen and living room, joined by double connecting doors that create an open plan feel. The ground floor has wood flooring throughout, and the kitchen is oak fitted. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom, with the master extending right across the front of the house. EXPLORE OUTSIDE: The estate forms a rough square, bordered on two sides by the canal, and on the other two by Landsdowne Valley park and by the Crumlin Road. Mourne Road is the longest road in the estate and 279 is located nearer to the canal end than the park. Recently this area has been the choice of first-time-buyers who value the proximity to the city, the extensive transport links, and the range of services that are available locally. There is a Luas stop less than 10 minutes walk from the house, and plentiful bus routes to choose from in the area. Crumlin Children’s Hospital is nearby, as is St. James Hospital, making the area a popular choice for healthcare workers. THE BOTTOM LINE: Location, location, location may be an overused cliché, but sometimes it is the simple truth! Lot’s of buyers are looking to minimise their commute and we expect strong interest here.
