Trains travel over the scenic Tamar Valley line between Bere Alston and Plymouth, mostly following the river. The community of Bere Alston has a store and a bar, and there are many beautiful rural hikes. Cotehele, a Tudor manor house with magnificent gardens extending all the way to the Tamar River, and Buckland Abbey, an estate on the Tavy River with artisan studios and family-friendly attractions, are two National Trust sites in the vicinity.
