The former home of local farmer/historian George Thomas, this property comes to market with c. 29.7 Hectares (73.39 Acres) laid out in approximately 9 divisions including a traditional agricultural cottage and farm outbuildings.The land is predominantly south-facing, gently sloping and currently in a mix of grazing, meadow-land and bog. The property enjoys approximately 500m-road frontage onto the main road. The land is well fenced with a mix of original stone walls, hedging and stock proof fencing. This farm enjoys superb uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside overlooking Greenane. Cottage & Outbuildings. The residence comprises a traditionally constructed stone-built cottage dating back to the 17th century. The cottage is in need of complete renovation . The buildings are predominantly, in its original condition (corrugated iron roofing has replaced original thatch) and is in need of some maintenance. George Thomas The Thomas family purchased Greenane Mor in 1913 at an auction in hotel adjacent to Market Square in Rathdrum moving from a farm in Sheephouse,Drinagh Wexford. It was George Thomas` Grandfather, John Loftus Thomas who bought the farm with two sons Alfred and Loftus helping to farm it. John Loftus died in 1939 and his son Alfred took over with Loftus dying in 1940 and then George took ownership in 1966 after his father died. The house of GreenanMor built in approx 1770 and still has the traditional thatch under the galvanized iron roof. It has never had electricity and the large open hearth provided the heat and cooking done by fire. The house once belonged to the Grant family,close allies of the rebel patriot Michael Dwyer who evidently had a safe house nearby. It is noted on a plaque inside Greenan Mor that the Archdeacon of St Patricks Church Wicklow. John Grant was born in the house of Greenan Mor in 1786. He was the founder of the church of St Patricks. From 1826 to 1863 the revered pastor of Wicklow and Ashford. The orchard and garden was developed by Alfred Thomas who was a keen gardener and George carried on this tradition with a great love for the lush green fields, the orchard and the wild flowers that flourished on Greenane Mor. George also loved the traditional box hedge that his father planted that leads as a lane-way to the front door of the house.
