My name is Cathy and I am a single mom to two young boys. Jayden is 10 years old and loves animals, computer games, arts and crafts, reading, watching TV and cycling. Caleb is 7 years old and loves music, computer games, reading, cycling and talking. I am a therapist for children (both an occupational therapist and a psychologist). I have worked with children and young people for over 20 years. I enjoy baking, cooking, arts and crafts, playing with the kids, etc.
We live in a four bedroom home with 2 bathrooms in a big town (Swords) near Dublin. We have two dogs and my parents, who live next door, have a dog and a cat. All animals have grown up with children and are friendly and healthy.
I have been teaching English to young adults for 10 years. Although I don't have a teaching qualification, I have 4 university degrees and am particularly good at English skills and have done a lot of editing in my role as a therapy manager. I also have experience helping students with special needs (e.g. dyslexia) prepare for exams.
My children have travelled a fair bit and been exposed to young adults from many countries and are very open, friendly and helpful. Although our main language in the home is English, some German is spoken as we are teaching the boys German.
Our town has a big shopping centre, good bus service, old castle, parks, river, playgrounds, skateboard park and lots of opportunities for sports. We are a short drive to the sea and a half an hour from Dublin. There are a lot of cultural experiences near us, including Newgrange (burial tombs older than the pyramids), the book of Kells, Malahide Castle, Dublin Castle, Dublinia (Viking museum) and Irish music. There are also many fun activities to do, including cinema, Tayto Park, Dublin Zoo, the beach, horse riding, and many more.
I work part-time from home as a paediatric therapist and can offer a student experience in my practice or I can organise work experience in childcare or in computer programming if required.
