Skibbereen is a town in west Cork. It is located on the N71 with the River Ilen running through the town. It reaches the sea about 12km away at the seaside village of Baltimore. THere are a wide selection of pubs, restaurants and shops in Skibbereen, as well as a GAA club, football club, golf club, rugby club, rowing club and athletics club. There are also four primary schools and three secondary schools in the town. The Skibbereen Arts Festival occurs annually, taking place at the end of July and including community based projects as well as a mix of national and international films, theatre, visual art and music acts. There are also a number of music events, including the annual Cork X Southwest Music & Arts Festival. Skibbereen's location near the coast of Ireland means that sea fishing, scuba diving, sailing, and kayaking are possible. Also, just outside town is Tragumna Beach.
