Shannon is a town in Co Clare which was named after the river near which it stands. It is a satellite town of the nearby city of Limerick. Located just off the N19 road, it is a spur of the N18/M18 between Limerick and Ennis. It is best known as the location of Shannon Airport, an international airport serving the Limerick/Clare region. The town was only built in the 1960s on reclaimed marshland alongside the airport. Local facilities aside from the airport include supermarkets, a shopping centre, pubs and restaurants.
