Shanagarry is a village in east Cork. It is approximately 35km east of Cork City and is perhaps best known for the Ballymaloe Cookery School in the home and gardens of celebrity chef Darina Allen. Another well known chef, Rachel Allen, is also resident here. About 2km from Shanagarry, just off the road to Ballycotton, lies Ballynamona beach. The surrounding land is a sanctuary for wildlife and is home to numerous herons, as well as oystercatchers and whitethroats. The beach offers good views of Ballycotton Bay. There is also a local GAA club, Russell Rovers, made up of people from Shanagarry, Ballycotton and Churchtown South. Other local amenities include the Shanagarry Design Centre, a holiday village and pubs.
