Rathvilly
Rathvilly is a village in Co Carlow along the N81 road. It is located on the River Slaney near the border with Co Wicklow and is 11km from Tullow. A former winner of the Tidy Towns' award in 1961, 1963 and 1968, the centre of the village is renowned for a statue dedicated to Kevin Barry, a local 18-year-old who fought for Irish freedom in the 1920s before being captured and hanged in Mountjoy Prison on November 1st 1920. Local amenities include a GAA pitch, church, schools, pubs, takeaways, bookmakers, post office, credit union, supermarket, hairdressers, pharmacy and Rathvilly Moat, a medieval structure which can be found one mile from the village on the Hacketstown Road.
