Mountbellew is a small town in Co Galway. It is located about 45km east of Galway City on the N63 to Roscommon. Both Athlone and Ballinasloe are also a short distance away. It is situated by the River Shiven, which provides excellent fishing, while there is also an 18 hole golf course in the town. The town consists of many shops and small businesses, as well as a number of pubs.. There are four schools located in the town, St Mary's National School, Holy Rosary College, Colaiste an Chreagan and the Franciscan Brothers Agricultural College. A market is held in the town square every Tuesday. There are also numerous sports clubs in the town including GAA, soccer, badminton and bridge clubs. There are also drama groups in the area and a community centre.
