Kinvara is a sea port village located in the south of Co Galway. The village lies at the head of Kinvara Bay known in Irish as Cinn Mhara, or more recently Cuan Chinn Mhara, from which the village took its name. This is an inlet in the south-eastern corner of Galway Bay. Kinvara is around 14km north west of Gort and is close to the border with Co Clare. Located along the N67 coastal route, it is 30km south of Galway City, which can be accessed via the 350 bus route. Local attractions include Dunguaire Castle, whiile the village hosts two festivals - Fleadh na gCuach ("The Cuckoo Festival") and Cruinniú na mBád ("Gathering of the Boats") - each summer. Local amenities include holiday homes and B&Bs, The Merriman Hotel, a pier, a selection of bars, cafés and restaurants, a post office, a supermarket, credit union, selection of shops, community centre, filling station, church and a national school and secondary school.
