Kilteely

Kilteely is a village in Co Limerick. The area in the east of the county is best known for being twinned with the neighbouring village of Dromkeen. The southern part of the parish is centred on the village of Kilteely which is located at the foot of the Hill of Kilteely, about 25km south-east of the city of Limerick. The northern part of the parish is centred on the village of Dromkeen which is located on the N24 Limerick- Waterford Road, halfway between Limerick City and Tipperary town. Kilteely has a unique landscape compared to other parts of the county. A variety of igneous rocks from two volcanic phases of about 300 million years ago can be found here. The volcanic plugs of Knockderk 220 m (782 ft) and Kilteely Hill 176 m (580 ft) are both conical in appearance but as the area is within the Golden Vale the land is generally good and is used primarily for the grazing of livestock and some tillage. There is a national school in Kilteely village as well as a small selection of shops and pubs. There is also a GAA club and soccer club
