Killaloe
Killloe is a large village in east Clare. It lies on the River Shannon on the western bank of Lough Derg and is connected by Killaloe Bridge to the "twin town" of Ballina on the eastern bank of the lake. The surrounding area is popular for hill-walking. Killaloe is home to St Anne's Community College, while the University of Limerick has its outdoors pursuits centre near Killaloe on the shore of the lake. The village is best known as the birthplace of Brian Boru, high king of Ireland from 1002 to 1014. St Flannan's Cathedral, unique for its stone carving inscriptions, is in Killaloe while there are also restaurants, galleries, pubs, shops, hotels, B&Bs, self-catering accommodation and much more.
