Hacketstown
Hacketstown, historically known as Ballydrohid, is a small town on the border between Co Carlow and Co Wicklow. It is located on the R747 regional road at its junction with the R727 with the River Derreen flowing westwards just north of the town and the River Derry rising just south of it. Hacketstown has a national school and secondary school, Coláiste Eoin, as well as Catholic and Church of Ireland churches. It is around 28km from Carlow town, which can be accessed via the 874 bus, which also serves Baltinglass, just 15km away. William Presley, an ancestor of Elvis Presley, was a resident of the town before emigrating to America over 200 years ago.
