Fota
Fota is an island in Cork Harbour. Not far from the N25 Cork to Rosslare road, it is best known as being home to Ireland's only wildlife park as well as the historical Fota House and gardens, as well as the golf course owned by the Fota Island Golf Club and Resort. Located at the mouth of the River Lee around 16km from Cork City, the island comprises two townlands both called Foaty: one each in the civil parishes of Clonmel (the western half of Great Island) and Carrigtohill (on the mainland). The island is served by Fota Railway Station, which is part of the Cork to Cobh commuter service. While there are many attractions in Fota, most of the major services and amenities are located in nearby Cork City or Cobh.
