Cong
Cong is a village that straddles the border of Co Galway and Co Mayo. Although it is primarily associated with the latter, a part of Cong is in Co Galway. Cong is situated on an island formed by a number of streams that surround it on all sides. It is located on the isthmus connecting Loughs Corrib and Mask, near the towns of Headford and Ballinrobe and the villages of Clonbur, The Neale and Cross. Cong is known for its underground streams that connect Lough Corrib with Lough Mask to the north and is perhaps best known for Ashford Castle and as a setting for The Quiet Man film. Local amenities include hostels, hotels, pubs, restaurants, a museum, Cong Abbey and two schools.
