Barna is a Gaeltacht village in Connemara in west Galway. It is located on the R336 regional road around 7km from Galway City, which can be accessed by the 424 bus route. Once a satellite of Galway city, the village is now rapidly becoming one of its suburbs. Officially the village is regarded as Irish speaking and is therefore a constituent part of the regions of Ireland that make up the Gaeltacht. Local amenities include a harbour, national school, a tyre/cycle centre, several B&Bs, The Twelve Hotel, several shops, pubs and restaurants and a supermarket. There are numerous sporting clubs in the Barna area including a GAA club, hurling club, scoccer club, and an 18 hole golf course two miles north of the village. Angling and pitch and putt are also popular.
