Askeaton
Askeaton is a town in Co Limerick. It is situated just off the N69 road between Limerick and Tralee and is built on the banks of the River Deel, some 3km upstream from the estuary of the River Shannon. It is located 27km west of Limerick City, which can be accessed via the 314 bus route, while it is 10km east of Foynes and 10km north of Rathkeale. There are a number of historic structures in the town, including The Desmond Castle - the focal point of Askeaton - which dates from 1199 and a Franciscan friary dating from 1389. Other local amenities include a church, community hall, a swimming pool and leisure centre, a car sales garage, a supermarket, filling station, credit union, library and selection of other shops and pubs. There is also a football team in the town, as well as three national schools.
