Description

(Reference number: 79329) By the babble of a flowing river, this historic cottage is the Scottish countryside idyll. The old, stone building sits against the dramatic backdrop of Dundurn, a Pictish hillfort. The surrounding countryside is laced with history and, even in the garden, you’ll find the old millstones and (covered) well from the site’s former life as a watermill. Snag a sunny spot in the garden and soak it all in, or head into St Fillian’s village for water sports on Loch Earn and to stock up in the village shop. The cottage has its own private jetty on Loch Earn, and you can fish on the river that runs through the grounds. Inside, keep cosy by the wood-burning stove and get out the board games for some quality time together. Or, curl up with a good book (there are tomes for all ages) from the little library and sit in the sunroom. If you take your tea out on the patio, you might spot the odd red squirrel or osprey soaring on high. At twilight, look out towards the lower field and you might see deer grazing. Home truths: *The sunroom is like a conservatory and should be closed off once the sun goes down or it will leave the house chilly *An old mill sits on the site but is locked off as it is unsafe inside *There is a low, free-flowing river through the garden so parents are advised to keep an eye on little ones playing outside *Dogs are welcome but should be supervised when outside due to wildlife and open farmland *The strength of the Wifi can be affected by the weather *One bag of logs is provided and you can buy more at the nearby shop *The freezer is in the outhouse (which can be locked to secure kayaks and bikes) *Due to the age of the cottage some of the bedroom ceilings are low and the wooden staircase has no railing .
