The small fishing village of Union Hall in Cork has its own active fishing fleet and pleasure boats, as well as facilities for water skiing, diving and canoeing. The village itself is steeped in history and boasts castle ruins and forts in the surrounding countryside. Reached by a narrow causeway, Union Hall now offers a selection of pubs and seafood restaurants, a supermarket, fishmongers, a post office, a bureau de change and an annual town Festival held every June. Boats are locally available and there are a number of nearby islands worth visiting whilst the village itself and surrounding area also offer good walking opportunities. The market town of Skibbereen is approximately seven miles away, and is full of shops, restaurants and pubs and is also home to the fascinating West Cork Arts Centre.
