DescriptionMoss Cottage is a beautifully restored farm cottage with a lovely setting in Glenalla - a peaceful valley centrally located between the main villages at the southern end of the Fanad Peninsula – Rathmullan, Ramelton, Milford and Kerrykeel.
This unique holiday property combines the ease of modern living with the charm of a bygone era. It provides a tranquil base from which to explore the beauty of north Donegal – from the majesty of Glenveagh National Park to the sandy beaches along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Tranquil Rural Setting
The cottage nestles at the foot of Cnockaffrin Hill and is well sheltered by mature trees and hedges. The present day cottage combines the traditional one storey farm building and an adjacent two storey barn.
The original thick walls are evident in the wide window sills inside. Exposed ceiling beams and a half door add to the traditional feel. The pristine water supply comes from a spring well in the hills above the cottage.
Traditional Style with Modern Comforts
The main room in the cottage is a wonderful open plan space with living, kitchen and dining areas. The cosy living area has a large wood burning stove. The kitchen area is modern and well equipped for a self catering holiday.
The dining area has a sturdy farmhouse dining table. Although the traditional style windows are narrow, extra natural light is provided by 2 ceiling windows – and, of course, the half door can act as an additional window in warm weather.
The cottage has 3 bedrooms to sleep 6 comfortably. There are two ensuite double bedrooms at either end of the open plan area.
The third bedroom is on the first floor and has an adjacent shower room. This room has bunk beds, a sofa and a tv with dvd player. For family groups, it effectively enables adults and children to have their own spaces within the cottage.
A Restful Getaway
The cottage has a lawn to the front and side with a small stream running along the bottom of the garden.
A picnic bench is available for al fresco dining or just to sit and take in the hill and countryside views while listening to local bird song and the sound of the babbling stream.
Around the cottage, there are narrow winding roads, country lanes and hill tracks which are ideal for the keen rambler. A trip to the top of the hill behind the cottage is recommended - there are truly breathtaking views over Lough Swilly
