The name Glebe House itself comes from the tradition of building significant houses as accommodation for church dignitaries. The evidence of this is seen throughout in the graceful proportions of the formal rooms, and in the generous accommodation, which has been well maintained and upgraded over time. \n\nSince the early 1800s, Glebe House was home to the Church of Ireland Vicars of Saint Mary's Church, Dungarvan, who lived under the patronage of the Dukes of Devonshire from their Irish seat in nearby Lismore. Early photographs of The Glebe are held in the collection of the Waterford County Museum.\n\nWhile the Duke of Devonshire still has a home at Lismore Castle, and is a regular visitor to the area with his family, Glebe House has since had a series of its own illustrious owners. In 1945, it was acquired by Paul I. Power of the prominent Co Waterford drinks and bottling industry dynasty. Power, whose father was founder of the St Brigid's Well Brewery, undertook key restoration works to the house, with care and sensitivity. \n\nIn 2001, the house was purchased by the present owners, whose joinery business has meant there is now extensive high quality timber work throughout The Glebe, as they likewise undertook the continuing care, restoration and upkeep of this significant part of Co Waterford's legacy.\n\nGLEBE HOUSE\nA sunny and generous vestibule with bathroom off it, leads to the inner hallway from which the main pair of formal rooms are both large dual aspect spaces. The living room has a fireplace, and the dining room a stove. Each has wide floor-to-ceiling inset sash windows with shutters, and sea and garden views. These are elegant spaces, ideal for entertaining dinner guests and larger parties. \n\nThe dining room opens to a breakfast room with an idyllic sun room. It also brings you, via a wide archway to a very generous kitchen with a classic range, kitchen island and plenty of counter and storage space. Off this is a utility room, which leads on to a large workshop, boiler room, and additional spaces with potential for storage, pantries, tack rooms or office accommodation. \n\nA pair of rear porches, which can double up as boot or tack rooms, open to the courtyard, off which lie a series of outbuildings and stables. Back inside, there is a WC/ shower room, while a changing room off the utility room leads to the large garden room that flanks the rear patio and barbeque area. This is equipped with a hot tub, wet bar, dining area and is currently used as a home gym.\n\nUpstairs, there are six bedrooms, with a choice of spectacular sea and garden views. Two are en-suite, and there is an additional two bathrooms. All the bedrooms are doubles, the ceilings are high and with such a generosity of accommodation, the layout could easily create space for additional en-suites throughout. A large space, previously a nursery, with its own bathroom space and rear stair access, has potential as a seventh bedroom, home office or au-pair or staff suite. \n\nGlebe House has been a signature home in Abbeyside, Dungarvan for more than 200 years. It provides the perfect canvas for you to create the next chapter in its illustrious story. \n\nGARDENS & GROUNDS\nWith approximately 1.65 ha (4.01 acres) of sheltered south-facing grounds, and direct access to Abbeyside Cove Beach with its golden sands, Glebe House enjoys an unrivalled location in Dungarvan. Sheltered on three sides by mature trees, the grounds open up to views of Dungarvan Harbour and Helvic Head. A private all-weather drive brings you to the house where there is ample space for cars, alongside a two-car port. \n\nAn extensive patio and terrace wraps around two sides, this includes seating and barbeque areas. The fourth side of the property is given over to a very charming stable yard with two stables and numerous additional outbuildings offering a potential four further stables. \n\nA walled garden stretches beyond this, which has excellent scope for kitchen gardens and orchards, a paddock, sheltered games area, or for possible further development, subject to planning permission. \n\nImmediately adjacent to the house, formal gardens and terracing are testament to The Glebe's Period heritage, and include topiary shrubs and a water feature. Stone steps lead on to extensive lawns that reach down to the property's boundary with the sandy beach and sea. A magnificent lookout point offers a seating platform for sundowners at the ocean shore. Additional sheltered seating nooks are arrayed throughout the well-thought out gardens.\n\nWith so many mature trees, the grounds are a haven for birds, including the majestic herons that make The Glebe their home. A very charming stone cut gardener's cottage is ripe for renovation, offering the potential for a two-bedroom staff cottage, home for an extended family, home-work space, or rental income. \n\nLOCATION\n\nSet on Co Waterford's Greenway, Dungarvan is a thriving seaside town with all amenities. Clustered around the harbour, and the main market square, there are plenty of shops, schools, golf and sports clubs and award-winning cafés, bars and restaurants. There is a weekly Farmer's Market, and a welcoming local community. The annual West Waterford Festival of Food is quartered here, celebrating the excellent local produce, artisan making and food culture.\n\nScenic beaches stretch out from Dungarvan along the Copper Coast, while inland, the Comeragh mountains provide wonderful walks. The Waterford Greenway Route begins in Dungarvan, with a scenic walking and cycle path all the way to Waterford City. The nearby Blackwater River is treasured by anglers, and there are a choice of golf clubs at hand. You are within easy reach of the M8 and M9 Motorways, while the Heritage Town of Lismore, with its historic castle and Opera Festival is less than a 30 minute drive.\n\nUnder 2km from Dungarvan town centre\nLess 1km from the Waterford Greenway\n26 km / 27 mins to Lismore\n45 km / 45 mins to Waterford City\n77 km / 1 hr 15 mins to Cork City\n82 km / 1 hr 10 mins to Cork Airport\n208 km / 2 hr 25 mins to Dublin City\n215 km / 2 hr 15 mins to Dublin International Airport\n\nAll distances and times are approximate.\n\nGardeners Cottage approx. 153.3 sq.m (1,650 sq. ft)."
