Carrowniskey is a lifeguarded beach, where surfing instruction is available. The idyllic beaches of Thallabawn (White Strand) and Silver Strand, which are rated best in Europe and are beautiful for swimming and sunbathing. Beaches in the Louisburgh area include Carrowmore, Old Head and Bertra, all lifeguarded beaches; these are popular for swimming and water-sports.\r\nIf your passion is walking, climbing or just generally “rambling”, then this is the destination for you. Croagh Patrick, Mweelrea and the Sheeffry Hills are in close proximity. There are numerous interesting walks and cycle routes to discover in the Louisburg and surrounding area, with magnificent scenery all around. Near-by, Roonagh Pier is the departure point for ferries to the beautiful Clare Island and Inishturk. These are very popular destinations for both day-trips and longer sojourns.\r\nThe short drive south to Leenane and Connemara passes through the magnificently scenic Doolough valley, flanked by the majestic Mweelrea and the Sheefry Hills. Doolough is also the location for Delphi Adventure Centre. Leenane is located near the mouth of the famous Killary Fjord, a 14.5 km-long glacial inlet.
