Geashill is a heritage village with a Church, shop, petrol station, national school, 2 public houses and a well-known GAA Club. Geashill is an old Anglo Norman settlement built in the 12th Century by the first Baron of Offaly, Gerald Fitzmaurice Fitzgerald, and comprised a timber castle with a church and dwellings. In the 15th century a stone tower house was built instead but today only the west wall of the castle remains. In the 16th Century the Digby family developed Geashill as a planned estate village. Extensive improvements were carried out in the 1860s and many of the current buildings around the triangular green date from this time.
