The quarry is currently not in use.From reviewing the Geological Survey Ireland (GSI) Spatial Resources service, the underlying bedrock geology for the site is visean carboniferous limestone. The sand and gravel materials on site formed a narrow ridge which stood above the surrounding landscape, and were deposited by melt water during the last glaciation.
The sand & gravel quarry is located in the townland of Cloonascragh, Tuam, Co Galway on the R347 c. 2km south of Tuam and 40km from Galway City.
