Glenealy is a picturesque but growing village 8 km west of Wicklow Town, on the R752, with a population of 2700 (census 2010). The Dublin - Rosslare railway line also passes through the village and adjoins the site. Since the extension of the N11 dual-carriageway from Dublin to within 5 km of the village, it has been undergoing rapid growth, attracting people commuting to Dublin.
Glenealy is classified as a large Village in the County Development plan 2016 â€“ 2022.
There is no access to sewerage so any development in the short to medium term will have to provide a self contained solution within the confines of the site. The site may be most suitable for a small number of detached houses(Subject to planning permission)
The county development plan contains measures restricting the amount of new homes that can be built in the village and restricting the amount of properties that can be sold to those from outside Co Wicklow. 50% of new build sales have no restriction 50% of home sales must be to either a resident for at least 3 years duration in County Wicklow or in permanent employment for at least 3 years duration in County Wicklow of within 30km of the large village in question.
