In former times Stone Cottage was a “Rent House” built by the Annaly Estate with an Arrate
Limestone facade, featuring attractive windows and ornate entrance door. The front walled in
garden features, open lawn, paved seating area, mature shrubs and tress and pedestrian access to
the street. The original house was built in 1875 in a Tudor Revival style and extended in 1939.
This property together with several others in Callan was originally owned by Baron and Baroness Annaly and her brother Albert Edward John 7th Earl Spencer, grandfather of Diana, Princess of Wales. It was originally known as the “Rent House” where the locals came to pay their dues to the absentee landlords.

From Kilkenny travel to Callan and take first entrance into Callan from the Bypass. Pass a left and keep left at next roundabout. Proceed past primary school to next roundabout and Stone Cottage is in front of you (see sign) opposite the Convent of Mercy
