Maynooth

Maynooth College, founded just over 200 years ago, is an excellent family day trip. The classically-styled college set in mature parkland is now a bustling university and the ruined castle at the gates of the college was formerly the home of the Fitzgerald family.

Maynooth offers a wide variety of leisure pursuits including golfing, football, tennis, horse riding, fly fishing and canal bank walks. The grounds of St. Patricks College run parallel to the Royal Canal.

Maynooth is an area which can boast a unique heritage and past. Strategically located 15 miles west of the the Capital. Since the arrival of the Fitzgerald’s in the 13th Century who built the castle in the town, the local landscape has always been dominated by some of the finest homes and mansions in the country. With Carton Demesne only a short distance away, now home to one of the country’s best international 18th hole championship Golf Courses, another architectural gem is Castletown House built by ‘Speaker’ Thomas Connolly at the end of the 18th Century.

Access with peace and quiet

Maynooth retains that quaint Irish town atmosphere with an attractive range of small quality shops offering everything for today’s shopper, while the recently completed new Tesco retail supermarket provides a pleasant weekly shopping experience.

Maynooth is located within easy reach of towns such as Celbridge, Kilcock, Naas and Newbridge all offering a vast array of leading retail stores, high street fashion outlets, exclusive boutiques, specialist decor and interior design shops.

The selection of traditional country pubs along its tree lined main avenue, offer the passerby the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy a quieter pace of life. In one of the many coffee houses or restaurants savour a coffee, cappucino, latte or glass of wine and observe the world as it passes you by.

Nearby, Liffey Valley offers perhaps the best ‘shopping mall’ experience with other retail outlets such as Blanchardstown Town Centre, Dunnes Stores, Manor Mill and the Square Tallaght all within easy access of the M50 Motorway. Or if the bright lights of Grafton Street beckon, the City Centre is only twenty minutes away by car, rail or bus.

At nighttime you are spoiled for choice with many fine restaurants located in the town offering the best selection of Irish, Mediterranean, Oriental or Far Eastern cuisine to choose from.
