More facilities can be found close by in Shepshed, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book, with its individual shops, cafés and pubs, and many ancient buildings dating back to the 17th century. Nearby are the 200 square miles of the National Forest, an environmental project covering parts of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The area offers many wonderful walks of varying distances, adventurous cycle routes, horse riding, fishing, numerous watersports and off-road driving experiences in a variety of vehicles.
