Robbie Gallagher set up business in Monaghan town in 1999 and formed the Sherry Fitzgerald Gallagher alliance in 2003. Seeing a gap in the market, he opened his second office in Castleblayney on 9th October 2006 to service mainly South Monaghan. The premises are in a very prominent position on Castleblayney’s main street.
Castleblayney is the third largest town in County Monaghan, located on the main national primary route from Dublin to Derry (N2). The national secondary route (N53) links the town to Dundalk, opening the gateway for the region. Castleblayney has continued to function largely as a market/service centre for its rural hinterland, which extends in to County Armagh. The town benefits from its strategic location both nationally and in relation to Northern Ireland; and its potential for tourism based on recreation in and around Lough Muckno.
The decline in agriculture and the closure of key industries and service functions in the town have left obvious structural deficiencies in the town that need to be addressed. However in recent years the town has developed as a residential centre and new commercial and retail developments have strengthened the towns economic foundation. The population of Castleblayney Town, according to the 2006 Census, dropped by 4.25 % however Castleblayneys rural hinterland increased by 16.5 %. The local authority for the area is Castleblayney Town Council.
