General
Navan is the county town and administrative capital of County Meath. It is situated in the centre of the County Meath approximately 50 kilometres (31 miles) north west of Dublin and 25 kilometres (16 miles) west of Drogheda. The town is in the Boyne Valley, at the confluence of the River Boyne and River Blackwater.
The town is served by the M3 motorway and national primary routes such as the N51. The M3 motorway provides access to Dublin City, the M50, Dublin Airport, Dublin Port and arterial routes throughout the island. Navan benefits from a regular bus service serving the town, Dublin City and various other towns throughout the country.
The town has a freight-only railway line. As of 2005 the railway is solely used by Iarnród Éireann to bring freight from the local lead and zinc mine, Tara Mines, to Dublin Port. The line from Kingscourt was used for transport of gypsum until quite recently but now this line is unused. Stage one of the Navan Dublin Rail Line commenced operation recently however stage two is only at planning stages.
Brews Hill is a central location in the town connecting with Trimgate Street, Railway Street and Cannon Row. The site, set in a commercial area, is located close to the centre of town, Navan Hospital and Pairc Tailteann. This is a prime site and one of the best remaining clear sites in the town.
